Choice Filling Strategy — Expert Tips
- Fill maximum choices: 200-500 choices recommended — more choices = better safety
- Priority order matters absolutely: Choice 1 = your dream. JoSAA allots from top downward
- Research previous year closing ranks: Use JoSAA 2024 and 2025 official data
- Include both IIT and NIT options if your rank is in the 3,000-10,000 range
- Female candidates: Check supernumerary seats at NITs — often lower closing ranks
- Lock choices before deadline — changes NOT possible after locking
Seat Allotment Options After Each Round
- Freeze: Accept this seat — withdraw from further rounds
- Float: Accept temporarily — remain in pool for possible upgrade next round
- Slide: Accept this institute — try for better programme within same institute
- Reject: Reject allotment — try Round 2 (risky — may get worse result)

- JoSAA Provisional Allotment Letter
- Class 10 and 12 Mark Sheets and Certificates
- Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS)

Branch Change at IITs
Every IIT allows branch change after 1st year based on CGPA (typically 9.0-9.5+). This is a legitimate strategy if you join a lesser branch but want CSE — score high in Year 1 and apply for upgrade.
