NEET UG 2026 will be held in May 2026. Students in Class 11 or just starting their NEET preparation should follow a structured 2-year plan to maximize their score. Here is a comprehensive roadmap.
Understanding the NEET Exam Pattern
- Total Questions: 200 (attempt 180)
- Subjects: Physics (50 Qs), Chemistry (50 Qs), Botany (50 Qs), Zoology (50 Qs)
- Marking: +4 for correct, -1 for wrong, 0 for unattempted
- Total Marks: 720
- Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes
Biology (Weightage: 360/720 marks)
Biology carries the maximum weightage. NCERT is the Bible for Biology — read every line, every diagram, every table.
- High-priority chapters: Genetics, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Reproduction, Ecology, Evolution, Cell Biology
- Books: NCERT Biology (Class 11 + 12), Trueman's Biology, MTG Fingertips
- Strategy: Make short notes chapter-wise. Revise NCERT at least 4–5 times. Focus on diagrams — label every part.
Chemistry (Weightage: 180/720 marks)
Chemistry has three sections — Physical, Organic, and Inorganic. Balance all three.
- Physical Chemistry: Mole Concept, Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Thermodynamics — practice numerical problems daily
- Organic Chemistry: Named Reactions, GOC (General Organic Chemistry), Biomolecules — understand mechanisms, not just memorize
- Inorganic Chemistry: NCERT is king — read and revise p-block, d-block elements thoroughly
- Books: NCERT Chemistry (11+12), Narendra Awasthi (Physical), VK Jaiswal (Inorganic), MS Chouhan (Organic)
Physics (Weightage: 180/720 marks)
Many NEET aspirants struggle with Physics. The key is to understand concepts, not memorize formulas.
- High-priority chapters: Mechanics, Modern Physics, Optics, Magnetism, Current Electricity, Laws of Motion
- Books: NCERT Physics (11+12), DC Pandey NEET objective, H.C. Verma (for concept building)
- Strategy: Solve at least 30–40 MCQs per chapter after completing theory. Focus on formula derivation to understand, not just apply.
Mock Test Schedule
- Year 1 (Class 11): Chapter-wise tests after each topic; monthly full subject tests
- Year 2 (Class 12 / Repeater): Weekly full NEET mock tests from January onwards; daily NEET PYQ practice
- Last 60 Days: 2 full NEET mocks per week; daily revision of weak chapters; NCERT Biology re-reading
Essential Tips
- Solve last 10 years NEET PYQs — many questions repeat with minor variations.
- Maintain an error log — write down every mistake and revise it weekly.
