Understanding NEET UG 2026 Counselling
Clearing NEET UG is only half the battle. The counselling process determines which college you actually attend. NEET UG 2026 counselling has two parallel streams: All India Quota (AIQ) managed by MCC, and State Quota managed by individual state authorities.
All India Quota vs State Quota
- All India Quota (15%): Seats in all government medical colleges across India. Managed by Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at mcc.nic.in. AIIMS and JIPMER are also included.
- State Quota (85%): Remaining seats in government colleges + all private / deemed university seats in the home state. Managed by respective state counselling authorities.
MCC Counselling Rounds — NEET UG 2026 Schedule
- Round 1: August 1–10, 2026 (registration) | Seat allotment: August 15, 2026
- Round 2: August 22–30, 2026 | Seat allotment: September 5, 2026
- Mop-Up Round: September 15–20, 2026 (unfilled government seats only)
- Stray Vacancy Round: October 2026 (online seat allotment for remaining seats)
Step-by-Step MCC Counselling Process
- Register on mcc.nic.in — Pay registration fee (₹1,000 for SC/ST, ₹5,000 for others)
- Pay Security Deposit — ₹10,000 (SC/ST) or ₹50,000 (General/OBC). Refundable if you join the allotted college or withdraw before deadline.
- Choice Filling — Fill college and course preferences in order of priority (you can fill unlimited choices). Tip: fill as many as possible!
- Lock Choices — Confirm your filled choices before the deadline. Changes are not possible after locking.
- Seat Allotment — Based on NEET rank, category, and your choices, MCC allots a seat.
- Report to College — Within the reporting deadline, physically visit the allotted college with original documents and pay the first-year fee.

- NEET UG 2026 Scorecard / Rank Letter
- Class 10 Mark Sheet + Passing Certificate
- Class 12 Mark Sheet + Passing Certificate
- Transfer Certificate (TC) / Migration Certificate from 12th school
- Aadhaar Card (original + 3 self-attested copies)
- Category Certificate — SC/ST/OBC-NCL (state govt issued)
- EWS Certificate (if applicable) — issued on or after April 1, 2026
- PwD Certificate (if applicable)
- Date of Birth Proof (Aadhaar / Birth Certificate)
- Domicile / Residence Certificate (for state quota)
- Passport-size photographs (20 copies recommended)
- Demand Draft / Fee Payment proof

- Fill maximum choices: Never leave choice filling short. A student who fills 400 choices has a far better chance than one who fills 10.
- Don't skip lower-ranked colleges: If you want any government college over a private one, include all government options first.
- Understand upgrade options: In Round 1, you can choose to be considered for upgrade in Round 2 if a better seat opens up.
- State quota timing: State counselling usually begins after AIQ Round 1. Apply simultaneously if eligible.
- Never miss reporting deadlines: If you miss reporting even by one day, your allotment is cancelled and you may not get another chance in that round.
